belcastro = [bella (beautiful) -or- bellum (war)] + castro (camp).
This is my parents while visiting Cambridge, MA in 2006.
My dad was the first person in his family to be born in the U.S. All of his older relatives are from the Calabria region in Italy, and San Giovanni in Fiore (find it on this map) in particular. (This site has info on Calabria in English.)
My mom's family is Acadian. (For LOTS more info, try this site, but beware! it's got music.)
I was born in San Diego, CA in 1970. In 1972 we moved to Andover, MA, where we lived until 1976, when we moved to Dubuque, IA, where my parents still live during the academic year (they spend their summers in Canada near Moncton/Shediac/Grand-Digue).
